Here’s my overall plan for the Earth Day Table / Door Prizes, please comment.

I was thinking I could make a list of local groups looking for volunteers. People fill out ballots that indicate which organization(s) they are interested in being contacted by to volunteer, along with name, address, phone number. We will draw door prizes from this list. We could do it at intervals, but that would require someone other than me to do it (assuming I’ll be ivy pulling during much of the day). I think end of day is sort of easier…thoughts?

This will be on the Earth Day table…anyone’s suggestions on what I can put on that table would be great.

I would also like to have the list / ballots at both films (I can be there for those). This way people have the opportunity to get involved right after (hopefully) being inspired. Those names would also go into Saturday’s draw…which is why I think drawing after the film might be easier (or at least saving one prize till then).

Here are the tasks I see before me:

    1) list of local groups and brief desc of each
    2) create ballots / ballot box (anyone have one?)
    3) plan table set up / prize draws
    4) make list of prizes and who they are from
    5) compile and forward info to local groups after event

I don’t think we need a lot of prizes, just something as a small incentive to people. It is not my intent to be soliciting door prizes (other than from RDN transit if we can’t get a good deal from them on bus service that day). I will need to coordinate with the vendor planner (Chris) and sponsorship planner (?) regarding soliciting door prizes. I will bring it up with any organizations I talk with directly (i.e. local groups that will be on the list) in case they want to contribute.

As everyone knows from Saturday, my plan has changed slightly so please make any comments regarding this one.

I will include the list of local groups looking for volunteers on the sponsor/exhibitor sheet (available for people hardcopy or by email).

Regarding door prizes, depending on what we get, we can discuss the best way to do. We can definitely do a ballot box, or (to save paper), we could do the whole “first person to come see me who has a … gets a prize”. It will depend how many prizes we get.

Still looking for suggestions for the Earth Day table.

Here are the modified tasks I see before me:

    1) list of local groups looking for volunteers (including us)
    2) plan table set up / prize draws
    3) make list of prizes and who they are from

The one thing I don’t want to do is end up calling an organization that someone else is already in touch with about Earth Day (without realizing). Chris / Michelle, if either of you are in touch with vendors / sponsors that are also local action groups, please let me know what organizations and the contact so I can be sure to talk to the same person. I want to ensure that we have the permission of any local group we add to the list. If anyone has any suggestions of groups, please comment.

I have a copy of a list of actions people can take re food sustainability, from Dr. Kathryn Gemmel. Could see if she can email to me for printing, or can photocopy for table. /See if she would like a table.

How about a display of things we love about Earth, &/or people who are inspiring Earth-heroes - taking action for the planet. There’s a national prize for best local hero, by the way.
